Steps to reproduce:

Opened story on ArchiveOurOwn
Selected reader mode in top bar
Reader mode should open

Actual results:

Reader mode inconsistently errors out with a "could not complete request" message and the web page must be refreshed and/or the app restarted to access reader mode again
This bug is not consistent

Expected results:

Reader mode should open

Thanks for the report! Unfortunately I was unable to reproduce this issue following your described steps on Firefox Nightly 125 (2024-03-04), Firefox Beta 124.0b5 and Firefox Release 123.0 using A Google Pixel 8 with Android 14 and a Samsung A32 with Android 13.
But I received the error you mentioned following the steps from Bug 1863662.

Could you please confirm that you encounter this error while using a new opened tab (Use "Open link in a new tab" option on an article link and enable reader view once the tab finishes loading) ? Thanks!
