The spoc ping is used to have callbacks for ad telemetry. The delay between ad fetch by the client and impression/click callbacks makes it difficult for the ads to get paced well.
We want to get two more datapoints from the client in this ping to understand:
- When the ad was initially fetched by the client
- When the newtab was moved from preloaded to visible to the user
The first of these will help understand how the caching logic impacts the age of ads being used, and the second will help separate the time that a user had the newtab open without interacting with items; for example, if the page was open for 1 hour and then they scrolled down to trigger impressions for spocs that were below the fold then that extra hour can be separated.
This will help us better understand how the client implementation contributes to callback delays and help verify that adjustments decrease the callback cycle.
