Change the Recently saved homepage section into a Bookmarks section so that people have easy, predictable access to their bookmarks.
Things to change:
- Heading renamed to “Bookmarks”
- Show up to 8 bookmarks (instead of 4).
- There isn’t a time limit on the bookmarks or the section. As long as there is at least one bookmark the section is shown no matter how old the bookmark is.
- The name of the section in settings should be changed to “Bookmarks”
Things to keep the same:
- If there are no bookmarks the section should not be displayed on the homepage.
- If the user turns the section off in settings, the section should not be displayed on the homepage.
- The most recent bookmark is displayed on the left for LTR languages.
- The design of the bookmark card
- The “Show all” link opens the bookmarks panel.

Will update if I hear back from :verdi in Slack, but I've asked:
Will there be any design updates to the Bookmarks section on Android, or do we want it to function as a scrolling carousel of 8 items instead of 4?

No design updates to the bookmarks cards - just showing 8 instead of 4.

:boek can you please take a look at this bug, and determine when your squad can pick it up? If you put a fixVersion
on the connected Jira ticket, that'll get it to show up on our FXDROID board. I'm needinfo'ing you about it because I'm not sure what your team is currently using for your workflow (e.g. if you have a prioritized backlog or sprint refinement process).
(The hope is that this is a small amount of work to help improve the usage of bookmarks before actually jumping into more significant redesign work)
Thanks!

Verified as fixed on the latest Nightly 127.0a1 from 10.05.2024 with Google Pixel 7 Pro ( Android 14) and Motorola G9 plus (Android 11).
The items listed under "Things to change" describe modifications, while those under "Things to keep the same" remain unchanged.

I think this could be worth mentioning the release notes. Summarized as something along the lines of:
"The Recently Saved section home page has become the Bookmarks section. These items no longer expire."

Could you follow our nomination process described in this video please:

Release Note Request (optional, but appreciated)
[Why is this notable]: Changes the UX on the home screen
[Affects Firefox for Android]: only
[Suggested wording]: The Recently Saved section home page has become the Bookmarks section. These items no longer expire.
