It would be easy if the individual bug pages (like this one) would contain a
sort of 'similar bugs' button, which gives you the query page, but with the
current settings (of the bug you were viewing) as default values. This way you
can quickly search for similar bugs, by just changing some of the values.

The problem is that similar bugs get called dupes or duplicates ...

No, I wasn't talking about duplicates. You want to look for bugs that are
similar, but not the same. Maybe you found a bug about CSS errors in tables, but
you were looking for CSS errors in divs. You already got the product and
component, you just need to change the summary a bit.

This could of course also be used to find duplicates easier: search for a bug
with a similar summary, but leave the product and component open.

I'm currently searching for a bug on creating a similar bug from the bug edit
page and happened upon this one which is similar to what I want to be able to
do.  So, I'll add a comment here and then continue my search in case my bug is
already out there. 

Along the lines of the issue described in this bug report, it would also be 
nice to have a "Create similar bug" link in the edit bug page.  That link would
cause the bug entry page to display with the same settings as the bug being
edited and the user can then change the fields as needed.  This would be very
helpful to my company since we make use of Collector bugs.  We would greatly
benefit from just editing the Collector bug and clicking the "Create similar
bug" link to pre-populate the bug entry page fields.  The majority of the time,
for us, only the Summary and description would be different.

"Similiar" is pretty vague. Same for "current settings". Similar how? Same OS, same version, same product, same summary, same description, same severity? It's so vague that this would bring you nowhere. When you file a bug, a list of possible duplicates is displayed, based on the bug summary. This should be enough to limit duplicates. Once the bug is filed, you better enter your criteria yourself in the search form.
