Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000050
(0xf000eef9, 0x00000001, 0xa0000db5, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini012103-02.dmp.
Reporter: could you test this sing a recent mozilla nightly ? thanks.
Also: did you install mozilla on top of an older build ? If so, please delete
your mozilla directory, and reinstall it.
This is not mozilla fault because mozilla doesn't install additional drivers
which can cause a BSOD like this.It doesn't matter if other applications don't
cause this.

Reporter:
Can you please paste the text from the BSOD ?
Which video card and driver do you use ?

vidur : a new build should not fix the problem in one of his drivers.

Severity: normal → critical
Video Card : Matrox Millenium G250 AGP (came with this HP Kayak XU800 workstation).
Driver : Matrox Graphics 5.72.21.0 20/Nov/2001, file:g200m.sys, version:5.12.01.1720

I'm downloading the utilities to read the minidump file now from TechNet.
There are additional informations in teh Blue Screen Text itself (not the dumb
(?) or the event log entry). You must disable automatic reboot to read this.

There should be the name of the driver in this text.
see http://www.ntbrad.com/bsod.htm for more informations
I think I have autoreboot on, because that's what is happening. I'll see what I
can do to find this setting and disable it so that I can see what the h*&^ is
causing the error. Only after installing Mozilla 1.3a (and was happening on
1.2.1) does this seem to happen.

BTW, this install of 1.3a was a clean install, no previous version was still
remaining. I even uninstalled any Java components (which I had to reinstall, of
course).
to disable auto-reboot :
(translated from my germany win2k)
Systemcontrol\system\Advanced\boot...\
CRSS.EXE != Mozilla
I think this may be invalid?

Reporter: Perhaps test your RAM with the utility at http://www.memtest86.com
WD: every win2k/nt/xp BSOD bug report is invalid sinmce mozilal doesn't install
drivers. Only drivers running in the protected mode (CPU level 0/1) can cause
this. (or caused by bad memory)

-> invalid

It's difficult to get the cause of such a BSOD.

Reporter:
I try to help. You can add the BSOD text and i can TRY to help but a hardware
error (bad ram) or is very difficult to find.

Here's the latest stop error BSOD:

Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area
STOP 0x00000050 (0xE2BF8000, 0x00000001, 0xBF1040B0, 0x00000001)
Address BF1040B0 base at BF0C8000, DateStamp 3c06a234 - G200D.dll

I was in Outlook 2000, MSN Messenger, and Mozilla 1.3a.

The same stop error happened a yesterday, but I was also in Real One Player
listening to the Radio, and in HotDog Professional 6.6 (Web editor, Sausage
Software). The Stop error codes were slightly different, but the Address,
DateStamp, and dll was all the same.
>G200D.dll

This is the buggy driver. You own a Matrox G200 ?
That should be the graphic card driver. Maybe there is a new version on the
matrox server ?
Seems that the after installing the correct video drivers from HP's web site for
my Matrox video card, I haven't seen any Stop errors. I'm unsure why the BSOD's
would only appear after installing and using Mozilla, though.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Mozilla and all other software calls only functions from the OS.
An application can trigger such a bug in the driver (as example) if it calls
some functions different compared to all other applications :

IE :
Function A
Function B
Function C

Opera :
Function B
Function C
Function A

Mozilla :
function C
Function A
function B - driver crash - win2k/xp/nt:Blue Screen, Linux: kernel Panic

The driver crahes because of a bug. The different function calling is no bug and
it's valid to call it in such a way. The OS would close Mozilla is it calls
something wrong or the OS reports an error to the application.

That also means that you can use Opera and IE and also other applications
without a BSOD but not with Mozilla.

There are also hardware related and other reasons for an BSOD (Blue Screen of
Death :-) ) but it's never a problem of a single application if this
application doesn't install additional drivers.
(some Firewall install such a driver and this driver from this application can
cause a BSOD)
