People

Details

Linux, TB 127.0b3

STR
send an OpenPGP encrypted message with German umlauts in the body text.

Result
German umlauts get garbled in the message sent. Example:
Grüße => GrüÃe

Does not happen when sending the message in the clear.

Expected Result
Umlauts must not be garbled in encrypted messages.

Just tried it. Seems fine to me. Is the copy in your sent folder showing it correctly?

No, the copy in the Sent folder is where I do see the problem.

Do you do anything special? Will need more details.

Not that I'm aware of.
This is an en-us Thunderbird version, and both, the English, and German dictionaries are installed, and enabled for spell check.
The problem is seen when sending an OpenPGP encrypted message from a Yahoo account.
The problem is also seen when sending an OpenPGP encrypted message from an AOL account.
The problem is not seen when sending an encrypted message from a Gmail account.

When sending an OpenPGP encrypted message from a Yahoo account using TB 115.11.1 there is no problem with umlauts.

Summary: German umlauts garbled in OpenPGP encrypted message → German umlauts garbled in OpenPGP encrypted message - from a Yahooor AOL account

The same is happening to me using TB 128.1.0 on a mac with external GPG configured. I am using a company, non-branded account. The language environment for the TB processes seems to be correct (en_US.UTF-8).

To mitigate I set "mail.strictly_mime" to true. That setting wasn't necessary in the TB 102 series.

External encryption, that wasn't mentioned before: Then it's bug 1911227. Reporter, are you using external encryption?

Indeed, I do use external GnuPG keys for OpenPGP for both, the AOL, and Yahoo accounts. No external GnuPG key for the Gmail account which worked.
So it had got nothing to do with Yahoo/AOL accounts, the problem was the usage of external GnuPG keys.
