User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:127.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/127.0

Steps to reproduce:

Create a bunch of tabs from different sites.
Let's say for example, I have Reddit and Bugzilla opened.
I open a bunch of reddit topics in a new tab, the tab order is such :
Reddit Front Page | Reddit Topic 1 | Reddit Topic 2 | Bugzilla

Then I go back to the reddit front page and open a third topic in a new tab

Actual results:

The new tab was first located next to the current tab, then it moved, and between those two events resides just enough time for a user to move his mouse and missclick because of this.
The first event (tab is created) :
RFP | RT3 | RT1 | RT2 | BZLA
The second event (tab moves to the "right position" after a short time):
RFP | RT1 | RT2 | RT3 | BZLA

Expected results:

The new tab is directly put in the right position,
To keep the example, what should have happened instantly is this (tab is created in the right position with no suddent displacement):
RFP | RT1 | RT2 | RT3 | BZLA

This happened recently, though I could not pinpoint at which moment exactly in the updates, sorry.

Hello! Thank you for submitting this issue I have tried to reproduce the issue on my end but unfortunately I wasn't able to with firefox 129.0a1(2024-07-08) on Ubuntu 22.04 and MacOS 12.6 and Windows 11.
Could you please answer the following questions in order to further investigate this issue?

  1. Does this issue happen with a new profile? Here is a link on how to create one: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles
  2. Does this issue happen in the latest nightly? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/
  3. Do you have any addons installed? If yes could you please list them?

Hello ! Thanks for your answer and your support.
I did the operations you asked me, and could not replicate the issue.

However, while switching back to my old profile I noticed that the problem disappeared !

For a moment I thought it was due to the use of the compact profile I use (which is "not supported") so maybe switching that to Normal and back to Compact could have done the trick. I don't really remember if I checked before doing that, sorry.

Here are my addons, if still necessary :

  • Bitwarden
  • Dark Reader
  • Download All Images
  • Enhancer for Youtube(TM)
  • Feedbro
  • GNOME Shell Integration
  • OneTab
  • Privacy Badger
  • React Developer Tool
  • Redux DevTool
  • Tab Reloader (page auto refresh)
  • To Google Translate
  • Tree Style Tab
  • uBlock Origin
  • Vue.js devtools

Thanks again! And have a nice day :)

Nevermind, restarting my browser makes the tabs dysfunction again

I tried changing my tab density to Normal again, and it did not immediately work.
But when restarting the browser with Normal tab size, it works fine.
I guess it's the dense tabs then ^^ Since it's "not supported" I guess i'll stop using them

news: I have the problem again

Sorry for the roller coasters ^^
