Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212
You can't remove the outgoing SMTP server in the mail & newsgroups account
settings. You can remove all incoming accounts, but attempting to clear the
Server Name field results in "Please enter a valid hostname" dialog. If all
incoming accounts are cleared, attempting to compose a new message results in
the Account Wizard starting up, so the outgoing SMTP server is nonsensical in
any case.

Reporter: Is this still a problem with a current Mozilla build?
(In reply to comment #1)
Yep, just verified w/Moz 1.7.2. User agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803
I neglected to include steps to reproduce. So, with a clean install of Mozilla:
1. Select Window -> Mail & Newsgroups
2. After the Mail & Newsgroups window appears, if the Account Wizard doesn't
appear, click "Create a new account"
3. Leave "Email account" selected and click Next
4. Enter "John Smith" in the "Your Name:" field, and "user@example.net" (no
quotes) in the "Email Address:" field, and click Next
5. Enter "mail" (no quotes) in the "Incoming Server:" field, and click Next
6. Click Next (dialog subtitle is "User Names")
7. Click Next (dialog subtitle is "Account Name")
8. Click Finish
9. Select Edit -> Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
10. Select "user@example.net" in the account tree view, click "Remove Account",
and click OK
11. Click OK in the confirmation dialog
12. Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the account tree view, clear the "Server
Name:" field, and click OK
Clearing the field should be allowed, but the "Please enter a valid hostname."
dialog appears instead.

Ah, you probably have to remove the server under Advanced... (yes this design is
stupid).
