Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:127.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/127.0

Steps to reproduce

Open more than 3 tabs and switch between them with the Ctrl+Tab shortcut.

Actual results

The previews of the tabs are too large and overlapping.

Expected results

The previews should have normal size. The issue only occurs on Wayland. On X11 it works as expected.

This issue has already been reported in Bug 1701845, and has been marked as resolved for an older version of Firefox.

Hello, thank you for the bug report!
Unfortunately I could not reproduce your issue. Would you be so kind as to answer a few questions so we can investigate this further?

Moving the Product to ‘Core’ and Component to ‘Widget: Gtk’.

Component: Tabbed Browser → Widget: Gtk
Product: Firefox → Core

Which screen resolution do you use? Do you use fractional scale? Please attach your about:support page.
Thanks.

@loicstankovic@hotmail.com, it's unsurprising that it was marked as for an older version, since that screenshot appears to depict quite an old version. Notably, the iconography depicted was replaced last year, as is the non-floating tab design. A more recent screenshot would be useful.

I simply reused the same screenshot as the other issue, since the behavior is exactly the same, I didn't think it was that interesting, sorry. I can make a new one tonight if needed.

@Ardelean Oana, Desktop QA [:oardelean]

Are there any configurations needed to reproduce this issue except having Wayland enabled?

No, there are no specific configuration, it's a quite recent installation of OpenSUSE with KDE6 with not much custom configuration.

@Martin Stránský [:stransky] (ni? me)

Which screen resolution do you use?

My main display is 3440 x 1440 (an external display), and my laptop screen is 1920 x 1200.

For the other points, I'll come back tonight with more info, as I don't have access to this setup currently.

@Ardelean Oana, Desktop QA [:oardelean]

Does this issue happen with a new profile?

Yes, still there with a newly created profile

Does this issue happen with latest nightly?

Yep, on 129.0a1 (2024-07-02) (64-bit)

Does this issue happen when Firefox is in Troubleshoot Mode?

Also yes.

@Martin Stránský [:stransky] (ni? me)

Do you use fractional scale?

The scaling is 100% on both of my screens if that's what you asked.

I also noticed something slightly wrong in my original bug report: the issue seems to appear when there's more than 5 tabs.

As you asked, I attached the output of about:support and an up to date screenshot of the issue.

I wonder if the two screen setup is the factor here. Can you try it with one screen only?

Flags: needinfo?(loicstankovic)

Oh yeah, you're right! I disabled the built-in laptop screen and use only the widescreen one, and it seems to work correctly. It also works when I'm not plugged into the widescreen.

Looks like we're using wrong screen to get screen size info.

I have been struggling with the same bug for quite some time and it's very annoying not only because you can't see what tab you are switching to with Ctrl+Tab, but also because my mouse is almost always in the middle of the screen and I always accidentally select a wrong tab with it, so Ctrl+Tab becomes almost useless.

Ubuntu 22.04 Gnome (Wayland)
Firefox 128
A single screen with 2160x1440 resolution
Scale 100%

Tested on Gnome right now with multiple monitors and works correcly. Please check Gnome if you can reproduce it. May be KDE specific.
Thanks.

I'm experiencing this issue on Gnome 46 Wayland, Ubuntu 24.04. I'm using 3 displays, the first being a 4K laptop display that is set to 1920x1080, then a larger display at 2560x1440, and then a smaller display at 1920x1080. I'm not using any scaling. This issue happens when a Firefox window is on the center display, with dimensions of 1704x1005, and not touching the left edge of the window. If I maximize the Firefox window, the tab previews appear fine. If the window is touching the left edge of the display, the tab previews appear on my laptop screen to the left all by themselves, without overlapping. Hopefully this is helpful!
