Bug 1901261 adds a new bookmarks toolbar button messaging surface. We'll run an initial experiment to test this surface before deciding whether to invest further engineering effort. The initial implementation of this surface captures click telemetry on the button using recordCommand (see here). This telemetry does not include the message id associated with the button. We will confirm whether intersecting these click events with experiment enrollment telemetry is sufficient for the initial experiment. We can prioritize this work to capture more detailed clicked events that include the message id based on those findings.
After further discussion, we decided to get data review input on an approach using the message id as the widget id for the initial patch. Assuming this approach is acceptable for the MVP version of the surface, we'll plan to revisit this work after we have the results of the initial experiment.
