After accidentally rebooting during a download (a CD autorun file had the option
of rebooting now or later, accidentally clicked later), any links that point at
a download of any kind will freeze all open Mozilla Windows. Forcing an End
Task is Task Manager results in total system lockup.
Uninstalling and reinstalling fails to correct problem
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start long download
2. reboot computer
3. attempt another download
Actual Results:
All windows freeze and become unresponsive. System locks if End Task is forced.
All new bookmark info is lost.
Expected Results:
Download manager should appear and download should begin.

Sorry, that should say "I accidentally clicked reboot NOW" not later.
in effect i guess you forced a crash of Mozilla.
Can you try this:
Quit Mozilla (and quickstart, if running)
*Rename* the file XUL.mfl (Located in your profile dir)
Any change?

This fixed it. XUL.mfl was recreated when the browser was restarted and
everything it working fine.
If you have the bandwidth: Can you zip up the renamed (faulty) XUL-file and mail
to jrgm@netscape.com with a pointer to this bug?

E-mail and file sent.

This could be a potentially novel way to corrupt the xul.mfl file.
If not, it would be a duplicate of bug 169777.
