User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0
Steps to reproduce:
Play a video on any website in Firefox and pause the video or skip through it. This can only be reproduced in Firefox, it is not present anywhere else on my system including other browsers such as Chrome.
Actual results:
There is a loud popping noise that sounds distorted and is very brief.
Expected results:
No popping noise or artefacts.

A few other notes:
- Memory pressure is low
- CPU activity is minimal when this occurs
- Attempted Firefox refresh with a clean profile and issue still occurs

Another observed behaviour is that sometimes this pop occurs half a second to one second after pausing rather instantaneously.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Audio/Video: Playback' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

We know that we can do better at fading the audio in and out, but we have a few recent reports, implying that perhaps something may have changed recently to make this worse.
Is this reproducible enough that you might be able to find what made this worse with mozregression, please?

This is very unexpected.

Apologies for the late response, I will attempt this later today and give it a go.

I have the same problem and I managed to snap an error message I see in console.app.
Hope this is somewhat useful. This happens on Sonoma 14.6.1 and Firefox 130

Just as an update, this isn't reproducible anymore on my end. Same hardware, but Firefox 134.0.2 and MacOS 15.2. Even if I use the same version that I originally had the issue with (128) I can't get the same popping and clicking that I got before.
