I'm trying to sign into my.excite.com, so I go to my.excite.com and click on the "Sign In" button, but I get this error message on the console: Program received signal SIGPIPE, Broken pipe. Error: Can't load: http://reg.excite.com/mps/login?a=a&pname=pfp&brand=excite&targeturl=http://www.excite.com/&ml_id=link:xcit:1008:i: (80004005) Error loading URL http://live.excite.com/r/co=pfp_login;http://reg.excite.com/mps/login?a=a&pname=pfp&brand=excite&targeturl=http://www.excite.com/&ml_id=link:xcit:1008:i: I get this almost immediately upon clicking on the link, it doesn't seem to even try a host lookup or anything. The next time I click on the link, the throbber just spins, with no noticable sign that it's trying to do anything. Assigning to Necko because I THINK it's a networking problem.

Since this site is popular, it's worth looking into this bug.

Alec, I'm having trouble with this bug. Here's what I tried: - tried the first the url above, listed after "Error: Can't load:". That took me to their login screen. - Got my own excite login! (did this in 4.x -- no particular reason, that's just what I was in when I started) - tried the url above again substituting pfp for my login (didn't seem to matter) - typed my login and password into the dialog - at this point I noticed that the login name and password text fields resized themselves to be wider on the left, covering part of the text [problem #1] - they resized themselves back after a few seconds, and then a very large window popped up and failed to repaint itself [problem #2] - clicking the close box on this window caused the "my excite" page to start loading for me, although the chrome didn't repaint(!) [problem #3] - iconifying the window and re-exposing it caused the chrome to finally repaint and everything looked alright. I was logged into the my excite page (although I notice that it's www.excite.com, not my.excite.com.) - trying to go to my.excite.com at this point works fine too. So I maybe the original bug here has been fixed. I don't think there's any kind of networking problem going on. I'm going to send this bug back to you to verify whether you can log on to excite yet, and whether you're seeing the 3 problems above. If you are, please file separate bugs on them. Thanks.
Thanks for looking at this - I'll give this a try today and mark WORKSFORME if the problem is fixed. if I see the other problems, I'll file seperate bugs

sure enough, this now works beautifully! Thanks for looking into this anyway.
Beautifully? What about the 3 problems I mentioned?
For the 1999120608 mozilla builds for Linux6, WinNT, and MacoS86: 1) I'm still seeing problem #1 (textarea boxes doing the shift-and-repaint- shuffle) on Linux6 & WinNT, but not on MacOS86. Checking for an existing bug before writing this one up... 2) I can connect to my.excite.com, get to the login page, on all platforms, but due to a bug with cookies on linux, I can only login to my account on WinNT & MacOS86.
