Details

(Whiteboard: [qa-triaged])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:129.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/129.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a webpage in some app with in-app webview (ex: reddit), in the webview select "Open in firefox" option (https://imgur.com/a/BHOnsI0)
  2. restart firefox android
  3. open firefox in desktop

Actual results:

  1. firefox desktop doesn't show the webpage opened in mobile

Expected results:

  1. firefox desktop should show the website opened in mobile

FWIW when i try to enter the url of webpage manually in desktop, firefox was auto suggesting the url even though i never opened the webpage on desktop before. I can consistently repro this and this has existed at-least since 4 months (probably longer)

sync is now completely broken. Tabs i open on mobile are not getting synced to desktop. However desktop to mobile sync still works i.e i can see the tabs i open on desktop firefox on my mobile device.

Thank you for your report!

I was not able to reproduce this issue on a Lenovo tablet TB X606 X (Android 10), nor on a Samsung Galaxy A14 (Android 13) phone.

Please provide us some additional details:

  • did you requested sync on both mobile and desktop, and the tabs from mobile were not displayed on desktop?
  • what device did you encountered this issue on?
  • what version of Firefox for Android did you tested on?

Hey! I would like to try and repro this again but i can't cause now sync on desktop is broken. https://imgur.com/Jaskpn1 If you look at this picture, you can see there are three devices linked to my account but sync UI on desktop is not showing any device.

I have enabled the "Data Collection and Use" for my account, is there anyway you folks can check the logs on server side and see what's going wrong.

Hey! I'm still seeing issue with sync from mobile device. sync never succeeds (see https://imgur.com/a/nIbr8Rh). I tried clearing data and signing-out and signing-in again but the issue still persists.

I am still unable to reproduce this.
I tested on the latest Firefox for Android 138.0, and on the latest Firefox for Android nightly 140.0a1 from 4/30 with aHTC 10 (Android 8), and a Google Pixel 6 (Android 16).
Ocasionally, the Synced tabs tray is blank for a brief moment, but tapping on "Sync" immediately populates the tabs tray with the tabs opened on the other synced devices (including Desktop).

Please provide us the following:

  • did you requested / tapped "Sync" on both mobile and desktop, and the tabs from mobile were not displayed on desktop?
  • what device did you encountered this issue on?
  • what version of Firefox for Android did you tested on?

I can no longer reproduce this.

Thank you!
