The proposed explanation is wrong. In the Mozilla/Netscape world, security token = security device, and it doesn't necessarily have to be physical device (e.g. the internal "software security device" also functions as a token).

As you have seen, I was a little bit confused by the term 'security token'. If there is no difference in the Mozilla/Netscape world between 'security token' and 'security device' but in other worlds, won't it a good idea to erase any occurences of the security token and replace it by the security device? -gka
Security token is the technical term that is still used by many developers. At some point we decided that "security device" was a more meaningful term for users. But it's important, especially for developers in the Mozilla world, to make it clear that the two terms mean the same thing.
