With a tar.bz2-installation on gnome its not possible to configure Firefox as default browser if the path name contains spaces.
Steps to reproduce:
- Extract the archive to a folder with a space in its name
- run Firefox
- visit
about:preferences
and try to set it as default browser (does not work, sad smiley)
The console displays an error message of type NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
in setDefaultBrowser
This bug was discovered by Bianca Hidecuti (thank you!) and explained here.

Assigning severity 4, because one has to intentionally name a folder to trigger the problem as the folder contained in the archive does not have a space. With this additional effort the impact on users is even lower.
