User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030122 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030122 There are several versions of Mozilla for Mac, and it is unclear which is considered the fully supported version. The latest CFM build seems to have stopped at Jan 22, 2003 but the Mach-O build still comes with a readme that says the CFM build is preferable (I am referring to the binaries in the /latest/ directory, not the source). It needs to be documented somewhere like the main Mozilla page, the status report page, or the Fizilla ports page which build is the one to use for testing, general use, etc. If the Mach-O build is now the main one, the readme file needs to be removed. The CFM build should have a readme added to state that it is being discontinued or phased out or whatever is happening to it. There needs to be some explanaition of what the difference is between MacMozilla-MachO.dmg.gz (which doesn't seem to run at all) and mozilla-mac-MachO.dmg.gz (which does) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to the http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/ directory and download any Mac version. Actual Results: Frustration. Incorrectly reporting that some bugs have not been fixed because I'm using the "wrong" build. Avoidable crashes.
So I take it mozilla-macosX-cfm.smi.bin is the same as the "mozilla-macosX-trunk.smi.bin" referenced in the Mach-O version readme? "mozilla-macosX-trunk.smi.bin" is what I had been downloading for months, but I wasn't aware that the name was changing.
There also appears to be 2 different Mach) builds. One was updated on January 30th and it doesn't work. The other has been updated and works, but it says its also an experimental build. If I click on the direct link on Mozilla.org to download a nightly build it downloads the CFM build which is not the correct build.
Flags: blocking1.3b?
This could be thought of as two (possibly more) distinct bugs. First, the Mac builds available in nightly/latest* are confusing and include obsoleted versions. Second, the documentation accompanying these builds is outdated and incorrect. I would say this is the most important part, and blocks 1.3 final (if not 1.3b). If 20021222 really is the last CFM (and Classic) build that will be released, then the ReadMe must indicate that fact and point people to Mach-O instead. Meanwhile, the Mach-O ReadMe should be replaced entirely. Third, the Mozilla web site contains many different explanations of Mach-O vs CFM, some of which are misleading and/or incorrect.

I agree that this is confusing and needs to be fixed. However, to elucidate for people until the bug is properly resolved, here is the closest thing I can find to an official announcement/explanation of CFM vs Mach-O Mac builds. (In short, Mach-O is now blessed and CFM no longer being supported by Mozilla.org.) http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=avkj4k%24ihs2%40ripley.netscape.com&output=gplain
I knew this was going to happen... I'm the release engineer in charge of the packaging and posting the mac nightly builds. As both Mozilla and Netscape officially endorsed the mach-o build and decided to stop producing cfm builds, I did make some changes to the file names, precisely to *avoid* confusion... At the same time, I informed Asa (a a few other Mozilla staff members) that the home page needed to be updated accordingly, to announce these changes and to fix the download links. I even provided a diff (I don't have cvs privileges to edit that page myself). So until this happens, here's the scoop: the last cfm builds were produced on 1/22 and are left in the 'latest' dir, with new names: mozilla-mac-classic-full.bin (used to be mozilla-mac-trunk-full.bin) mozilla-mac-classic-stub.bin (used to be mozilla-mac-trunk-stub.bin) mozilla-macosX-cfm.smi.bin (used to be mozilla-macosX-trunk.smi.bin) The nightly mach-O build was initially named MacMozilla-MachO.dmg.gz but I've decided to use mozilla-mac-MachO.dmg.gz to be in line with the other bits in there. I must have forgotten to remove the last build with the old name from the 'latest' dir, which is now fixed. As to the Read Me file, I agree, it should be revised. I'll look into it. Asa, can you update the home page with the changes I sent you?

Flags: blocking1.3b? → blocking1.3b-
Fixing has workform. Now only mach-O builds are available. No more note is bundled in the .img file provided by mozilla.org.
