Steps to reproduce:

On Kubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat, I used snap to update to "Firefox 130.0 (64-bit) canonical-002 - 1.0". I then browsed to webpages that contain ogg videos, for example, the HTML5 Video Test Page at:
https://tekeye.uk/html/html5-video-test-page

Thinking my profile or history might be the problem, I removed and reinstalled Firefox. No extensions, no plugins, just out of the box Firefox. Same result.

For a further test, I still had the previous Firefox version on a virtual machine, and it played ogg/theora videos just fine. Then I upgraded (sudo snap refresh) and the new Firefox could no longer play ogg/theora videos.

Actual results:

Now ogg/theora videos just display a blank space that plays nothing. Before the update, they played just fine.

Expected results:

The ogg/theora videos should render and play just like the other formats.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

If I'm reading that right, you're saying the Mozilla project has deliberately removed Firefox's ability to play ogg videos. Wow!

Why? I note that it still advertises ogg video support:

I looked at bug 1890370 "Remove references to theora from the tree" but saw no rationale for this action (that could be because I'm new to bugzilla and didn't know where to find more explanation). Certainly the bug doesn't mention "low usage".

What, specifically, does "low usage" mean? How is "usage" measured?
