Found in
- 131.0b6
Affected versions
- 132.0a1 (2024-09-15)
- 131.0b6
Tested platforms
- Affected platforms: Windows 11, Windows 10
- Unaffected platforms:macOS 12, Ubuntu 24
Steps to reproduce
- Open https://www.hulu.com/watch/2a2a3219-926d-44cc-9034-cbc35cc8b9fa (Tell Me Lies- S1 E1 - Lightning Strikes)
Expected result
- Video works.
Actual result
- Nothing happens, video remains black.
Regression range
- Unfortunately I cannot perform a regression range because the wide wine plugin is crashing on older builds and due to bug 1912449. I can also reproduce the issue with Firefox 131.0b1. The issue is not reproducible with Firefox 115..15.0esr (Widewine version
Version 4.10.2710.0) 128.3.0esr (Widewine Version 4.10.2710.0) or 130.0 (Widewine Version 4.10.2830.0).
Additional notes
- Attached a screenshot.
- I have also made a screen recording. Note that from the recording only the video
The Secret Romantic Guesthouseis working (the sound ca be heared in the recording) but the playback cannot be displayed on the screen recording for some reason. TheTell me liesandThe Old manseries are not working (link). - We reproduced this on one Windows 10x64 machine and three Windows 11 machines. On another Windows 10 machine, the issue does not reproduce.
- Some videos like https://www.hulu.com/watch/951fded4-39d9-4bf3-be34-afe8fc33091e works.
- The video from the above steps works on Chrome.
- Note that we are using Nord VPN.
- S2 because we don’t know how many machines or videos are affected.

Interesting, now I see why others might have had trouble reproducing. I see that in 131 beta, we used 2 for early beta / devedition:
https://searchfox.org/mozilla-beta/rev/d3fd8082ef591853286c7ddb5d0cdf805b2abb8c/modules/libpref/init/StaticPrefList.yaml#10879
Did you mean you could reproduce it by setting it to 2 rather than 0?

Ill defer to atrif since this was from a conversation on Slack.
Since it was defaulted to 2 and reproducible this way in b1, we asked to attempt with it set to 0. :atrif correct me if im wrong, but it did not work on a new profile with 130.0b1 with media.wmf.media-engine.enabled:0 ..even after a restart.

Yes, this is correct. Sorry, I somehow missed the other comment. Video from comment 0 does not play on Hulu using Firefox 130.0b1 with media.wmf.media-engine.enabled:0 even after a browser restart.
