I encountered this as well on a work windows VM. I tried downloading the latest win64 zip update off of ftp.mozilla.org but the same thing happened. I'm going to see if it's possible to wipe that update agent.

I found a folder under C:\ProgramData\Mozila-long-guid that I foolishly wiped before noting down the guid.
Nightly launched without issues afterwards.
I see a new one was created so I assume it's just some data the update agent uses.

Firefox Nightly will not start after installing updates, without display any crash information.

If I try to open Firefox Nightly, it will installing updates again and still will not start.

Firefox Nightly works fine for a short time after overwriting the installation, but the same problem occurs after detecting an update and restart Firefox Nightly.

Could you please give a precise sequence of events? I'm having a hard time understanding. It won't start but also it works fine for a short time? How do you know it's installing updates? Are you looking at one of the update interfaces? Which one and what does it say?

I'm also probably going to need an update log of this problem happening, which can be collected like this:

Navigate to about:config.
Set app.update.log to true.
Open the Browser Console either with the hotkey Control+Shift+J (Command+Shift+J on macOS), or via Hamburger Menu (☰) -> More Tools -> Browser Console
In the Filter textbox at the top, enter AUS: to filter out everything except the update messages.
When the problem happens, copy the messages out of the Browser Console and attach them to this bug.

Same problem (Win11 Pro 23H2).

with Nightly running, check for updates
choose to update if there is one
restart Nightly
close Nightly
try to restart - it won't; only the 'Firefox nightly is installing your updates...' appears and then disappears
uninstall/reinstall is necessary to get it going again

How can this be accomplished when Nightly won't start and has to be reinstalled?

Correction: sometimes uninstall is needed; other times it's not needed.

Over here, I'm going to say that while erasing the updater's data solved my nightly issue temporarily (much like with Li Zihan), this morning the updater was prompting me, and on restart of Firefox Nightly, the problem returned.
Erasing C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a864-e594e8d1fb38 allowed me to start nightly again, but I'm going to guess I'm no longer getting automatic updates and will have to download them off of https://ftp.mozilla.org until the updater is fixed.

I spent a bunch of time investigating this and I think I may have identified what's going on. Is everyone that's experiencing this using an Administrator account with UAC (User Account Control) disabled? If not, please tell me what type of account you are using (Administrator/standard) and what your UAC level is (if you aren't sure, go to the settings and search for "UAC" to "Change User Account Control settings").

I'm Administrator and UAC is set to 'Notify me only when apps try to make changes to my computer (default)'. However, I don't recall ever being notified with this setting.

Just remove everything except update-config.json in C:\ProgramData\Mozilla-1de4eec8-1241-4177-a864-e594e8d1fb38\updates{last profile from list}
and firefox will start.

With regards to UAC settings. This behaviour is brand new. Nightly was updating for a long time without any issues, and I have made no changes to the machine. Also, nightly is running off a folder on my desktop so there should be no access control restrictions.

I did however search for the UAC in settings. Mine is set to "Never Notify"
