Details

Found in

  • Nightly 133.0a1

Affected versions

  • Nightly 133.0a1

  • Affected platforms:

  • Ubuntu 22

  • macOS 14

  • Windows 10

Preconditions

  • Have browser.urlbar.scotchBonnet.enableOverride set to true.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox and perform a search using the each one of the default search engine (Google/DuckDuckGo/Bing).
  2. Click on the Show the address in the Location bar (Blue Globe icon) button.
  3. Observe the address bar.

Expected result

  • Search term is replaced and the full url is shown.
  • Bookmark Star is shown at the right of the address bar
  • Translations button is shown if Fx default language does not match with the website localization.

Actual result

  • Search term is replaced and the full url is shown.
  • Bookmark Star is shown at the right of the address bar
  • For DuckDuckGo and Bing the Translations button is missing from the address bar even if Fx default language does not match with the website localization.

Regression range

  • Not a regression.

Additional notes

  • Should the Translation button be always viewable next to the Globe button? Or should it be accessible via a shortcut just the like Bookmarks are (Cmd + D)?

I would expect the translations icon to appear, yes. When you click the globe icon, the urlbar should revert back to its normal state. But I can't reproduce this with the latest Nightly. Here are my STR:

  1. Start with a new profile
  2. Set browser.urlbar.scotchBonnet.enableOverride to true
  3. Choose Bing from the chooser
  4. Type "chocolate" and hit enter
  5. The en-US Bing page loads
  6. Click the Bing menu button in the top-right corner > Settings > Language > French
  7. Repeat steps 3 and 4
  8. Click the blue globe icon to show the URL again

The translations button appears next to the bookmark star. I tried the same STR with DDG and that worked too. Are you doing anything a little different?

Hi Dana, we've just tried reproducing this, and we can't. Please can you see if this still reproduces for you, and if you can, please can you give more details about steps?

This was a bit of confusion on our part. We rechecked now, all good, this is an invalid bug. Once the search engine lang settings mismatches the build localization the translate functionality and icon appear on the full URL unfurl.
