On an IMAP server, create a folder with a '>' character in its name, for example:

Another <s> new folder

Select the folder in the folder pane in order to open it.  Mozilla throws a
dialog box showing a "folder not found" error message from the server.  Enabling
tracing shows that Mozilla truncated the folder name at the '>' character in the
SELECT command it sent the IMAP server.
