When :nalexander ran into bug 1926431, they pointed out that the error messages don't include a reference to the commit which introduces the issue. This made it difficult to track down which commit was causing the push to be rejected.

We should return a reference to the commit which is causing the issue, either as a commit SHA or commit message.
