- 134.0a1 (2024-11-03)
Affected versions
- 134.0a1
Tested platforms
- Affected platforms: Windows 10/11
- Unaffected platforms: macOS, Ubuntu
Steps to reproduce
- Open Firefox and go to https://www.nintendo.com/us/switch/online/nintendo-switch-online/nintendo-music/
- Scroll down to "Watch the trailer"
- Click play on the trailer and quickly enter fullscreen mode
Expected result
- The video enters fullscreen mode and plays without issues
Actual result
- The video is not playing. "The media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem or because the media used features your browser did not support." error message is displayed
Regression range
- Will look for a regressions range as soon as possible. At the moment, I am unable to reproduce it on Firefox 132.0.1-build2 and on Firefox 133.0b3
Additional notes
- See the attached video
- Refreshing the page solves the issue
- The issue is intermittent and generally reproduces right after launching Firefox (both new or old profile)
- “Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: Fullscreen request denied” error message is displayed in Web Console (I will attach the logs from the web console in Comment 1)

I have tried to find the regressor using Mozregression, but unfortunately, I am uncertain about the results, as the bug is intermittent. Also, each time I run Mozregression, I end up with a different pushlog, which makes it harder to pinpoint a specific change.
Here is the latest pushlog I obtained: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=2977d4891ceeed019dc906dff3feb6c9f530213c&tochange=c3c6d6835d493cf05b8f30070b5d5e0e9a9017cf
Last good build: 2023-10-06
First bad build: 2023-10-07
Please note that I have considered the "good" build the one in which the issue does not reproduce 10 out of 10 times (there is a possibility that the issue may actually be older).
Interestingly, the issue is reproducing with Firefox Nightly 120.0a1 but does not appear to do so with Firefox 132.0.1-build2 or Firefox 133.0b3 (at least, I was unable to). Maybe the issue is specific to Nightly builds?
Given these findings, I am removing the "regressionwindow-wanted" keyword.

:alwu, since you are the author of the regressor, bug 1857097, could you take a look? Also, could you set the severity field?

Could you attach your about:support for the machines you tested on which you were able to reproduce? I was unable to reproduce, but I appear to have HEVC hardware decoding support, so perhaps that is part of it. Thanks!

Of course. Attached you can find the info. Please let me know if I can provide more details!

Strange, about:support indicates there is no software support for VP8/VP9/AV1, and that should ship with Firefox. Not sure if that is a hint. You have HEVC support, which is the relevant support for the video/pref in question.

Not sure if this helps, but the info from about:support that I attached in Comment 9 is from Nightly - and I am able to reproduce the issue only on Nightly. I noticed that on Firefox 132.0.1-build2 RC, the VP8/VP9/AV1 listed in about:support appear to have software support (unable to reproduce the issue there).

I couldn't reproduce this issue as well, I've tried 20+ times and video were all playing well. Could you help me capture a profile by following this instruction?
In addition, for no sw support in the about:support
, I think it's bug 1861806. However, I notice that you dIdn't install AV1 extension on your device, which might be the problem. Please install AV1 extension by clicking install extension
on the AV1, it should direct you to Microsoft store to install AV1 extension.
Thanks!

Sure! Here is the profile: https://share.firefox.dev/4fyd6yD
I have also installed the AV1 extension (after I captured the profile) and I was still able to reproduce the issue.

Hello, Bianca,
Did you capture the profile from about:logging
or directly from the profiler button? As your profile doesn't contain any debug logging, so I guess it's from the profiler directly (even though sometimes about:logging
can't capture log successfully due to Firefox Profiler's bug)
If you didn't capture that from about:logging
, could you do it again for me by following this instruction? Thanks!

Hi Alastor,
You are correct, I captured the profile directly from the profiler button. Will capture a new one, for sure. Unfortunately, today I was able to reproduce the issue only 2 times, without capturing it. I will leave the ni? so I can retry on Monday.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.
