User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210 Usually attatchments are available on the own computer and are only duplicated in the SENT-mail folder. Why not include a button that strips off the attatched file and inserts a reference to the URL of this file instead - this would save much space and time! (This feature could also be an option for moving a message to the trash folder...) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: now all the data is saved Expected Results: optional button to omit saving of attatchments locally
This feature could also exist as a global setting - i.e once selected in the Mail/News settings it will not save attachments to the SENT-MAIL folder.
Stripping attachments would be a very useful feature in general (not just for sent mail). I am responsible for a number of users, many of whom often fill up their quotas on the IMAP server by retaining emails with attachments. Many of these emails are kept as a record of the correspondance, though the attachments are no longer required since they have been saved to disk if important. An "archive" function for emails, where the mail is stored but the attachment is stripped out would be useful, possibly extending to the idea of archive folders, where attachments are automatically stripped is mail is moved into the folder. The feature requested by the original poster would then be emergent by treating "sent" as an archive folder.
Great Idea, However, I would like this as a function on selected e-mails: "Strip Attachments" A good place to put that function would be in File-> Attachments Regards, Xyloc
Note that there is a patch in (slow) progress at the dupe. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 2920 ***
