Please summarize the request, emphasizing any user-facing changes. Include historical context or background information if it helps users understand the new features or changes. [REQUIRED]
Firefox is removing the DNT option from the Security and Privacy page in favor of supporting the "Tell websites not to sell or share my data" checkbox as this newer checkbox is built on top of Global Privacy Control (GPC) and is backed by an enforcable law that institutes fines on sites that do not honor this header, as opposed to DNT which has been commonly been seen as a toothless signal sent by browsers to ask site operators to treat user data with respect.
Some important context, in the past, we considered DNT to be acceptable because there had been no other adequate signal and so even though it was toothless, some sites would honor it making it better than nothing. Now that GPC is becoming more widely recognized, we feel DNT is no longer an acceptable signal, especially because, despite the name "Do Not Track", it does little to nothing to prevent tracking. Therefore, after a long bout of internal discussion between Mozilla engineers, privacy staff, and legal council we feel it is time to retire DNT.
