Details
(Keywords: hang)
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20030210
Build Identifier: Mozilla 1.3a and Mozilla 1.2.1
May be related to bug 80311, I'm not sure but this may happen after I look at a
Word Attachment. Killing Mozilla, rebooting the machine and then restarting
Mozilla does not clear the problem. I first experienced it with Mozilla V 1.1.
The problem cleared when I installed 1.2.1 It happened again. I installed
1.3a. It happened again. Uninstalling and reinstalling 1.3a did not fix the
problem, I was unable to access my mail at all. I downloaded and installed V1.3b.
Because I am now running 1.3b I don't have the exact info about the Build
Identifier. I believe it was 20021220. I am actually running Windows ME and
not 2000 but there was no choice for it above.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install V1.2
2. Select my user profile
3. Browser window opens
4. Click on Window, then Mail & Newsgroups
Actual Results:
Mozilla hangs. No response, also no error messages. I use CTL + ALT +DEL.
At first the list that comes up indicates that Mozilla is running. I
cancel then try CTL +ATL + DEL and it says Mozilla etc.. - Not Responding.
Expected Results:
Opened a Mail & Newsgroup Window.
Bug occurs under both themes. Seems to be specific to my mail or something
I have done - when I try using my husband's profile, things seem to be okay.
This bug is pretty serious since the only workaround I have found is to install
a new release of Mozilla! I'm happy to be a tester but am worried about what
will happen if I install a new release and it doesn't fix the problem ...
I'm running Norton Antivirus and my virus definitions are up to date. I scan
incoming and outgoing email.

Reporter:
Can you please close mozilla, locate your mozilla user-profile (see the release
notes for the path under win2k) and RENAME (don'T delete it) the file XUL.mfl to
something like "xul.old"

Yesterday, in trying to get my system working again, I uninstalled and
reinstalled 1.3a. This did not resolve the problem. I then installed V1.3b and
the problem went away.
Today, following the request in Comment #1, I uninstalled V1.3b and reinstalled
V1.3a hoping that the problem would resurface and I could see if renaming
XUL.mfl would help.
Unfortunately, the problem did not resurface when I reinstalled 1.3a. I also
tried opening a Word attachment to see if that would cause the problem to
reoccur. No luck. The best I can do is save the information and try renaming
XUL.mfl the next time my system gets hung.

the XUL.mfl bug should be fixed in 1.3b
