IMAP sub-folders are dynamically discovered when a parent folder is opened.
Thus, the filter cannot fine a folder to move an INBOX msg to if that folder has
not yet been viewed in this session.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a folder 3+ levels down in IMAP
2. make a mail filter to move a msg to that folder
3. bounce the mozilla client
4. send yourself an email that will match the filter
Is this a duplicate of bug 183429?
Reporter, do you know what sort of IMAP server is being used? This process
works for me with an exchange 2000 server unless the nested folder is not
subscribed. See also bug 194297, which implicates Cyrus IMAP.
Seems to be related to "bug 183429" but most likely not a duplicate.

Looks like a duplicate of bug 183429 to me. Also, I have the same problem with
Courier-IMAPD 3.0.3, not Cyrus IMAP.
Of course, I haven't subscribed the folders, but I really wouldn't think I
should have to for the mail filters to work.

I stopped using Thunderbird's mail filters 6 months or so ago, but had not experienced this problem in some time before that.
My reason for switching was unrelated - I have dozens of mail filters and was being forced to recreate them all every time I had to reinstall Thunderbird because of a hard disk crash or whatever. By the fourth time this happened, I decided to filter my mail using procmail on the server side.
