Steps to reproduce:
TB 128.5.2esr Linux Mint 22.0 x64 (Firefox 133.0.3)
My default PDF reader is qpdfview. Until a few days ago, trying to open a pdf attached to an email in TB resulted in it opening in qpdfview, which was the intended action. If I changed the intended action to "Always ask", a box appeared asking whether to save the file or open it in the default pdf reader or another app. This happened whether the pdf was attached to a received email or a draft email I was preparing, and was as intended.
Now, with a received email pdf attachment this still happens, but with a draft email the pdf attachment opens immediately - in Firefox! The Linux Mint default pdf reader is still qpdfview. The TB setting for "Portable Document Format (PDF)" in "Files and attachments" is "Open with qpdfview (default)". If I change that setting to "Preview in Thunderbird", both a received email pdf attachment and the draft email pdf attachment open as previews in TB. If I change the setting to "Always ask", the options box appears with a received email pdf attachment, but with the draft pdf attachment this opens immediately in Firefox.
Actual results:
See above. Attached pdf files in draft messages open in Firefox.
Expected results:
The messages should have opened in qpdfview (default pdf reader).
