User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/131.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/131.0.0.0
Steps to reproduce:
Since a long time I have a GMX.net Account configured.
Today I found out, that the synchronisation of the CARDDAV Address Book stopped working.
Error Console shows the following Messages:
carddav.sync: Sync with server failed. CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:659:11
syncWithServer resource:///modules/CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:659
NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Incorrect response from server: 412 CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:238
Then I created a new Profile and configured the GMX.net Account with IMAP.
On "Connect your linked services" the CARDDAV was found and I clicked "Connect".
This time the synchronisation works.
I checked the CARDDAV path and it's the same (the number 1234567 is not the real one):
https://carddav.gmx.net/CardDavProxy/carddav/AddressBook/1234567/Contact/
Actual results:
With the existing Profile, the synchronisation of the CARDDAV Address Book stopped working.

When I create a new profile and copy the content of the Betterbird profile,
the same Messages are shown in the Error Console of Thunderbird.

Set the hidden pref carddav.sync.loglevel to All, retry, and check the Error Console for logs (Ctrl+Shift+J)
Note that anything other than Thunderbird proper is not supported.

carddav.sync.loglevel has been set to All, default: Warn.
Error Console doesn't show further messages than the following, although I restarted Thunderbird.
carddav.sync: Sync with server failed. CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:659:11
syncWithServer resource:///modules/CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:659
NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Incorrect response from server: 412 CardDAVDirectory.sys.mjs:238

I clicked on the Gear and enabled "Enable Network Monitoring". Now I can see the HTTPS Request and Response headers.

I confirm the described error for Linux (Thunderbird 128 vs. GMX address book).
It is particularly unfortunate that no user-visible error occurs - only if you check the log you realize that the address books have gone out of sync.
Same defect as bug 1912673: Thunderbird only recovered from a 400, and GMX answers 412
