User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:135.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/135.0

Steps to reproduce:

28.6.1esr (64-bit) on M1 MacMini, Sequoia 15.3

Mails have disappeared in local folders, I guess since the last update (don't always check if all are still there).
I imported the mailboxes and local folders from Postbox in autumn. Everything was still there.

I used Folder Compare to compare the TB directories with the Time Machine backup immediately after the import and today's status. By and large, all the files are still there, with only minor differences in size.Repairing does not lead to any success! Is my dim memory still correct that this can be solved by deleting the respective *.msf file?
Tested - no success!
More about this in the Thunderbird-Mail forum, it would be tedious to translate the whole process and post it here.
Is there any indication of what could be the cause and what else I should try?

Actual results:

My presumption:
Here the problem is clearly described - and also the differences between OS, like Unix, Linux / Windows / Mac

Difference Between Carriage Return (CR) and Line Feed (LF) ? How it is used in Different Operating System?

Expected results:

Please take an eye to Carriage Return (CR) and Line Feed (LF) in the TM code of the Mac aarch64 Version.

“User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:135.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/135.0“
Please don't be fooled by this - I wrote this with a Firefox 135.0 (aarch64) on a M1 (Apple Silicone) MacMini, Sequoioa 15.3

Looks very much like it!
What can be done to make them accessible again?
I opened some with BBEdit, copied the content, saved this new MBox file. Then it was readable again in TB.
Unfortunately I have a lot of local MBox files as archive.
Copied over from the old Postbox directory (migrated from Postbox, after its end, to TB) most of them are readable.

If you're comfortable with command line, see bug 1942540 comment 2.
It's just text files, so I'd imagine there are other utility programs out there as well that can convert it for you.

From which version did you use Postbox? It was a tb fork, using pretty old code, but not that old.

It was the latest Postbox version, but I deleted so I cannot see that.
I converted this autumn 2024, at the end of Postbox - Postbox are closed - eM Client adopted (eM is not what I wanted).
It works very well till one of the latest TB updates.

Quick remedy:
BBEdit offers the possibility to change the code page and control characters in the lower border, you just have to open the MBox file, change the bottom as desired, save, that's it. When I copied some mailboxes together, a few mails were destroyed. I tried this MBox with CR LF, it worked, the broken mails were gone. Changed all the ones I was working on to UTF-8.
Maybe it's because of the history. These mails were originally in MS Outlook 2011 for Mac. There was no direct way to get them to Postbox, so I copied the mails to directories on the Mac using drag & drop, then dragged and dropped them back to Postbox from there. And now imported from Postbox with Thunderbird. A few generations of MacOS in between.

With CR nothing is displayed, with LF or CRLF it is.
