Since nightly and release are affected, beta will likely be affected too.

Actually this happens on Chrome as well with font size set to 80% in desktop mode. So normally it is a non-compat.
I think "Automatic font sizing" should not be the default. It affects many users when not using a normal font size on their phone settings. Many of the reports regarding layout on different sites that we do not reproduce might be related to this issue.
The users might check on Chrome and say it does not reproduce there but thats because Chrome uses default zoom to 100% for text and images when in reality it reproduces if the size is changed.

The same is happening in Chrome, so let's close this.

I think "Automatic font sizing" should not be the default.
I do kinda agree, we have a whole set of issues related to this (bug 1891086), but it's hard to just turn off.
Hey, I was the one pne reporting this in GitHub I wanted to clarify something important related to the report. The thing is the main reason this is happening is because of a problem users face for years in Firefox Mobile which is when one wants to switch the desktop view, no matter how small one set the zoom in their device settings for general use, Firefox open the desktop site as more zoomed in than the mobile site as I have said and added the comparative screenshots between the browsers in the report on GitHub. This is reproducible for several years and nothing has been done to fix this yet. As a temporary solution to this is to change the text size, or the zoom settings from the about.config or to use a add-on which doesn't work all the time. As a result of this, the site is zoomed out and not just the text yet also this causes the breaking of design in some sites like Youtube. But without zooming out, the desktop sites are utterly unusable due to the fact that websites like Google Docs/Slides or Microsoft Office etc. provide the settings according to the space available on the screen. I wanted to use Firefox for years on my tablet but because of this unsolved problem which I haven't got the reason behind it, I am not able to migrate to Firefox as my daily browser. If this issue can stay open or what I was said can be opened as a new issue, I think it will greatly benefit big screen users on the mobile platform as this issue is as important as it is problematic, requiring attention and work to be done.

We didn't actually end up closing this because we know it is annoying. You can easily remedy this yourself by turning off "Automatic font sizing" in the settings - no addon or about:config pref needed.
