Hi there!
As a long time user of Tree Style Tabs, I started to use vertical tabs. I really like when I open a link from a tab that is already in a tab group, the new tab is also in the same tab group. I'd like to know if it would be feasible to extend this feature to tabs that aren't in existing tab groups. In other words, a new tab group gets created when a new tab is created from an exiting tab. That's a feature I've enjoyed in Tree Style Tabs: tabs I open from the same page are all put under the same group of tabs.
In the meantime, my workaround is to manually create the tab group so new tabs automatically get added to it.
Let me know if there's any additional information I can provide.
This could be done with an extension if tab groups get WebExtensions support (Bug 1940631).

Extensions would be able to do this once bug 1959714 is resolved. Can this bug be closed as a duplicate of bug 1959714, or is there something more to track here?

Sounds good to me, I don't think we need more here at this time.
