vertical tabs: scrolling with touchpad is almost impossible

Steps to reproduce:
Linux. On desktop using Apple Trackpad, on Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. Vertical tabs in the new revamped vertical side bar.
When the number of tabs exceeds the screen area, it is convenient to navigate them, typically by scrolling. But it impossible when the scrolling device is a trackpad (two finger scroll gesture).
This is experience in the beta release and the stable release.
I am on Ubuntu 24.04 or 24.10 using the gnome wayland session.
Actual results:
While scrolling up and down the list of tabs works well with a mouse or with the Thinkpad pointing stick, two finger scrolling doesn't work. The list of tabs hardly moves. Finding the "thumb" in the tiny scrollbar works, but it is also not a very good solution. And there is no keyboard navigation that I can find. Page Up and Page down do nothing, arrow keys do nothing.
Unfortunately, I had to stop using the new vertical tabs.

Trackpad scrolling works well in all other aspects of Firefox.

Also note: this problem is not experienced in any of the third party vertical tab extensions I have tried.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Sidebar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Note: holding down the Ctrl or Alt modifier key lets scrolling work normally.

I believe this has been fixed in Firefox 137 in bug 1947114.
In earlier versions, going to about:config and setting apz.gtk.pangesture.delta_mode to 2 should fix the issue.
