User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3b) Selected oldest message in inbox up to last message in 2002, ~1200 messages. Dragged messages to a folder under 'Local Folders'. Churned (this is normal). eventually operation completed, but it appears that in addition to the Copy,Delete operation on the selected folders, a Delete was perfomed on most of the remaining mail in the inbox ~1300 messages. This was the 1.3b version of Mozilla. Email was deleted without being copied anywhere. No recovery by the user possible. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: see steps above, I don't have a way to reproduce the exact conditions. Expected Results: Moved e-mail should have been moved, other mail (not selected) should have remained. I will log a separate bug about the inability of Mozilla to accept e-mail restored on the exchange (IMAP) server.
I can't reproduce this - can you try with a 1.5b build?

It's not reproducable, it happened to me only once, and once to a friend here in the office, with 1.4 or newer. In both cases a lot of mail was being moved.
This issue continues to occur with Mozilla 1.6. ~6000 messages in an IMAP inbox on an exchange server, moved ~1400 to a local folder. All messaged were eventually deleted. E-mail was restored by using the 'restore deleted' function of the exchange server with Outlook. This is a relatively common occurrence in my office when moving 1000+ messages at a time.
Don't know if this is related by I seem to have lost >1000 mails from an IMAP folder without even trying to move them (at least AFAIK).
This just happened to me (4/21/04) after highlighting two files, right clicking, selecting "Move To", then selecting a local folder. The two messages appear in the target folder without a subject, dated 12/31/1969, and are unviewable. The same thing happens if "Copy To" is tried instead of move (but timestamp has no date, just incorrect time). PC, Red Hat 9, Moz 1.6 (20040113)
7/9/2004 - this happened to me when highlighting 2 messages, right click, select move or copy to local folder (from IMAP Inbox). The two messages appear in the target folder without a subject, dated 12/31/1969, and are unviewable. Single message move or copy is fine. Mozilla 1.7 (Gecko/20040616), Red Hat Linux R9 (2.4.20-31.9), Intel P4 2.4 GHz.
This data loss behavior happened to me about 7 times since I started using Thunderbird 0.5 and happened again yesterday with a 2004-08-08 0.8 branch nightly on win32. The subject, body, and attachments are all blank, and the timestamp is dated 01/01/1970 (likely due to time zone difference with comment #6). However, contrary to comment #6, this has only ever happened to me with single message moves (likely because I typically don't move several messages at once). This seems to occur more often when I am connecting to an IMAP server over a slow GPRS connection and switch rapidly from viewing messages to moving messages.
9/9/2004 - When highlighting 3 messages, right click, select copy to local folder (from IMAP Inbox). Two of the three messages are ok (multiple move on other msgs. was done prev. w/o incident). The third msg appeared in the target folder without a subject, dated 12/31/1969, and was unviewable. This message had a reply associated with it. Single message move or copy is fine. Mozilla 1.7 (Gecko/20040803), Red Hat Linux R9 (2.4.20-31.9), Intel P4 2.4 GHz.
This has happened to me several times. Usually what happens is our exchange server complains that my mailbox is getting full, so I use a filter to find messages older than 30 days. Then I move them to my Save folder under my Local Folders, and after a while there is nothing left in my INBOX. All the old and all the new messages are gone. I then get them restored by the Exchange admin. When I login using Mozilla, it is as if there is an immediate expunge that occurs with all the messages marked Deleted. The workaround for me then is to get them to restore the deleted messages and then use a python script to delete the "Deleted" flags for all deleted messages. Then I can proceed to move the messages in smaller numbers at a time.

when we switched to a new email server (a hardware/software solution) the problem went away. the old one was aix based (using its email daemon) and there was a segment size limit of 256k in effect. the new system (mirapoint) is linux based.
