Per UX review, we should bump the light opacity a bit (to .6) be safe regarding contrast, but should be good to go otherwise.
Julian also mentioned that a plain <select> is only translucent in light mode, but I think that might be expected given our current custom select implementation (and doesn't seem a blocker in any case)
