[Affected Platforms]:

  • Windows 11 x64
  • Ubuntu 24.04 x64
  • macOS 15.3

[Prerequisites]:

  • Have Firefox Nightly 138 installed.
  • Set the following prefs:
    -> browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.enabled = true
    -> browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest.sponsored = true
    -> browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest.nonsponsored = true
    -> browser.search.region = GB

[Steps to reproduce]:

  1. Open the browser with the profile from prerequisites.
  2. Open a new tab.
  3. Focus the Address Bar and type “adi”.
  4. Observe the way the sponsored suggestion is displayed.

[Expected result]:

  • The entire “adidas” keyword is displayed.
  • The remaining letters that are autocomplete are bold.

[Actual result]:

  • Only the typed letters from step 3 are displayed (“adi”).
  • The keyword is not autocomplete.

[Notes]:

  • This issue is not reproducible with the non sponsored suggestions.
  • Here is a screen recording with the issue.

Can (cbguder) uploaded new data to RS today that fixed this, and I was able to verify it. I'll mark this as fixed in 138 even though the fix was totally server-side.
