Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:139.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/139.0
Steps to reproduce:
turned on my computer after an automatic firefox browser update
Actual results:
I had a new window with just a new tab page and another tab about the update without any of my actual tabs or locked shortcuts. I closed the window expecting to see the real firefox but it wasn't there and it wouldn't let me restore "recently closed windows" to get back my tabs, tab groups, and pinned shortcuts.
Expected results:
it should have opened the window of my actual browser like you'd expect any browser to do even after some random inconsequential update.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Tabbed Browser' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Hello, thank you for the bug report!
Unfortunately I couldn’t reproduce your issue. I had updated from Firefox 139 to Firefox 139.0.1 and all my tabs and other settings have been successfully restored. Would you be so kind as to answer a few questions so we can investigate this further?
- Are you using Private Browsing Mode?
- Do you remember whether the ‘Open previous windows and tabs’ option was checked in about:preferences?
- Does this issue happen with latest nightly? Here is a link from where you can download it: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/
Moving the Component to ‘Session Restore’. Please change if there’s a better fit, thank you.
Thank you.

No I don't use Private Browsing mode.
"Open previous windows and tabs" option was enabled in settings but seems to have turned off with the update. I never messed or changed any settings before my browser updated so idk why that changed. It was doing the "open previous windows" behavior before the update.
thank you.

Unfortunately, the "Open previous windows and tabs" option being disabled means for some reason the previous session did not get restored after the update. We've had very occasional, similar reports over the years and its been difficult to track down a root cause. I'm going to link this bug to bug 1873249 where we want to make the list of available session backups more available for these kind of scenarios.
