User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:139.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/139.0
Steps to reproduce:
NOTHING, that is exactly what was working without my intervention : firefox telling me "new version available"..... when a new version is.
Actual results:
Since version somewhere between 130 and 136, FF just says nothing and stupidly display "FF is updated by something else" in the about box.
WHICH IS FALSE
Why ? I use an old openSuse with zero package updates, since 5 years. How do I update FF ? I download the zip (when FF was telling me new version available),
unzip the 64bit linux, replace the /usr/lib64/firefox directory on my disk, final point.
There is no hidden manager or another FF running somewhere nor any change on my computer.
Expected results:
display "new version available" as it did for years and as thousands of other products do without any problem.
How is possible for you to break something that is working, should be straightforward simple ???????????
IT was working up to ~135. Just revert unneeded 'fix'.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox for Android::General' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Thanks for the report. Since this appears to be a regression in Firefox’s update notification on Linux and may depend on your specific environment (openSUSE, manual installation), we’ll need developer insight. I'm flagging this as qa-not-actionable for now as it cannot be reliably reproduced in our standard test environments.

Hello,
I updated today (13/aug/2025) to 141.0.3 (64 bits), same message (ff updated by another thing).
