• macOS 15.5
• Ubuntu 24.04

[Prerequisites]:

• Have the Firefox Release Candidate 140.0 de build installed/extracted and opened.
• Have a VPN app set to Germany.
• Have the following prefs set in the “about:config” page:
  • `browser.search.region’ to ‘DE’
  • nimbus.debug to true
• Have the “about:studies?optin_slug=weather-rollout-eu-phase-2&optin_branch=weather-suggestions-rollout&optin_collection=nimbus-preview” link copied to clipboard.

[Steps to reproduce]:

1. Restart the browser and open a new tab.
2. Paste the copied link.
3. Open a new tab page and write the “Doppler-Radar” keyword in the Address Bar.
4. Observe the weather suggestion received in the Address Bar drop-down.

[Expected result]:

• A weather suggestion indicating the current location is displayed.

[Actual result]:

• No weather suggestion is shown.

[Notes]:

• I’m unsure if it's because the “-” is not recognized or due to the “Doppler radar” keyword, which has the same translation in more countries.
• Attached is a screenshot of the issue.

This issue is also reproducible when writing "qualità dell'aria" on it locale, and "qualité de l'air" in fr locale

Thanks, I'll fix the core problem in app-services in bug 1973876 and then do a vendor, which will fix this bug.

This should be fixed in 142 now. I think it can ride the 142 train but it's still early in the cycle so we could maybe uplift it, but typically I don't like to uplift app-services vendorings unless it's absolutely necessary.

I have verified this issue on the latest Nightly 142.0a1 (Build ID: 20250701155448) on Windows 10, macOS 14.4.1 and Linux Mint.

• The "Doppler-Radar" on de locale, "qualità dell'aria" on it locale, and "qualité de l'air" in fr correctly trigger the weather suggestion.
