(Observed in Nightly 142)
Steps to Reproduce:
- Open Firefox Nightly (version 142 or higher).
- Go to about:config and set dom.text_fragments.create_text_fragment.enabled to true.
- Highlight any text on a webpage, then right-click to open the context menu.
- Observe the options related to copying link to highlight.
Current Behaviour:
The context menu shows both “Copy link to highlight” and “Copy clean link to highlight,” but the clean version is often disabled. It only becomes active when Firefox detects tracking parameters in the copied link, which may not happen very often. This just adds clutter to the context menu and also why would a user want to decide between copying a clean vs a non clean link, isn't it always best practise to copy clean (why not just protect the user).
💡 Proposed Solution (UX Spec):
Combine “Copy link to highlight” and “Copy clean link to highlight” into a single context menu item. This unified item should appear directly under the standard “Copy” section, instead of being separated into its own group. All copied links to highlight should be clean by default, so the user doesn’t have to think about which version they’re getting. This creates a more intuitive, streamlined experience.
