Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Firefox 140.0.1 in GNOME 42.9.
  2. Turn on Firefox Settings > Firefox Labs > Picture-in-Picture: auto-open on tab switch.
  3. Open a new tab.
  4. Go to a website and start playing a video.
  5. While the stream is playing, switch to another tab.
  6. Notice that the stream is now playing in a picture-in-picture window.
  7. Notice that the Firefox icon in the GNOME dock is wiggling.

Actual results:

The Firefox icon in the GNOME wiggles just because a picture-in-picture window opened automatically on tab switch.

Expected results:

The Firefox icon in the GNOME doesn't wiggle just because a picture-in-picture window opened automatically on tab switch.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

No, and it also doesn't happen when I manually click on the picture-in-picture button on videos.

Could you reproduce it with Firefox nightly (142)? Have you installed any GNOME-Shell extensions related to this?
I can not reproduce it (wiggling) with Firefox Nightly and GNOME 47. And, it doesn't wiggle at any circumstance as far as I can tell.

It appears that the issue is with the official Cosmic Dock extension in Pop OS 22.04. Without that enabled, there is no dock. With that enabled and all other extensions disabled, it still happens with Firefox nightly 142.0a1 (2025-07-15) on GNOME 42.9.
