Would like to clarify a few more thing.
I tested this on Android 10 and here are the things which I noticed.
If the dialog is displayed once, if we then proceed to cancel it.
The dialog won't be displayed second time.
You can even try refreshing the page. It still will not be displayed.
I had to close the firefox app and start it again for this dialog to be displayed again.

This is most likely bug 1974569. Can you please update to the latest Firefox for Android version and see if that's still an issue?

Hey Dennis
Tested this on Android 16 API version 36
Updated my Firefox version using Play Store, I got the June 30th update installed.
This is still reproducible.

Strange, when I compiled this from Android to debug. The feature is working fine in the debug gradle build variant.
Variants which get published on the play store are release ones, which means something could be affecting just in those variants. Haven't tested those yet. Will test them once I found some time.

Can you confirm which Firefox for Android version you're on? You can find this in the "About" dialog that is in the bottom of the settings list.

Please find the version screenshot in the attachments.
Thank you.

And the build which I compiled and ran from Android Studio for Firefox Fenix was on commit SHA 9f12e383d

Environment: Nightly 142.0a1-20250705092206 / OnePlus 6 A6000 (Android 11)

Precondition: Open links in apps set to Ask before opening

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.watchfacestudio.awfmnmlthin
  2. Cancel when prompted to open the link in app.
  3. Tap on "See in Play Store app"

Expected results: Prompt to open the link in app appears.

Actual results: Nothing happens.

Workaround: Access the page on a different tab/window

Note: If Open links in apps is set to Always will redirect instantly to Play Store and when returning to the page and tapping on "See in Play Store app" will redirect again to the app.

Version: unspecified → Firefox 142

Since nightly and release are affected, beta will likely be affected too.
For more information, please visit BugBot documentation.

I'm not sure workflow-broken is quite right; you can get to the app store; but if you cancel and don't go there, then the button to take you there later doesn't work.

Yeah I think this is WAI...

Closing as INVALID per comment 12; this is intended behavior for the open-in-external-apps flow.

ni=royang to confirm that diagnosis or alert us if anything here seems unexpected.

I think this is sort-of a dupe of bug 1847273, really.

The STR here I think depend on the user having canceled the dialog once (as noted in comment 1), and then the user expects that tapping an explicit "open in [external app]" link on the site would give them another chance to see the dialog, since they've presumably changed their mind and now want to allow the external-app-launch.

Bug 1847273 is essentially about that being a papercut.

Duplicate of bug: 1847273
Resolution: INVALID → DUPLICATE

(We can drop this to S3 given comment 11 through 14.)
