as per https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1967525#c62, we might get more reliable results from our required screen resolution and refresh rate checks. We landed code in bug 1917594, and failures show up in bug 1967410.

Looking at the failures, they typically are a single machine for many tasks in a period of time, then we quarantine the machine and it gets in the queue to get fixed. This helps boost confidence in the current system.

in Bug 1967525, a couple of options were mentioned:

I wonder if the failure seen in Bug 1967525 is related to remote desktop | VNC, this would probably not be an issue with CI. Making things more robust is a good idea in general :)

Severity: -- → S3
Priority: -- → P2

The error message for the intermittent failure on bug 1967410 is: ERROR: expected refresh rate = 60.00, instead got .

That's exactly what I get when I tried to run some jobs. This is because the current code doesn't return any resolution or refresh rate because it's not listed in the expected output. Both of the mentioned tools don't have this problem.

this works as expected in CI for 10.15, 14.70, 11.20 (not in use anymore), and 15.30. We get both resolution and refresh rate. If you can provide more data so I can see how this is failing (remote desktop, vm based, architecture, os_version, patch level, cli permissions/user). I am open to adjusting this, but this works reliably in CI, so I need to understand the use case where it doesn't work to determine why it is broken and see what limitations and hackery exists with the current tool vs other tools.

I cannot give exact details but I was connected via VNC to a macOS loaner and maybe changed the resolution back and forth. After getting the machine added to my own pool and submitting jobs the script to check the resolution and refresh rate started to fail with the above problem.

This is a rare case but annoying when you want to investigate issues on a loaner. I had to hand it back for reinstall and got a new one to workaround the problem. Maybe a restart might have helped - I didn't do that at this time.
