Once bug 283779 lands we have a way to use a temporary directory for much of the shared storage directories that Firefox uses during test runs. This would allow some kinds of testing that wouldn't have been possible before without potentially corrupting a developers own Firefox data and will allow removing a lot of hackery that we currently have to do in tests for the profile manager.
