Steps to reproduce:
Set both profiles to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" in the Nightly Updates settings, like in the attached file.
Summary:
If I try to have the two profiles open at the same time, with the first one having a pending update when launching the second, it looks like Firefox ignores this setting.
Steps:
- Open the first profile.
- Wait for an update message or hamburger menu dot to arrive and do not update.
- Open the second profile.
- Observe that the update notification is not present in the second profile.
Actual results:
If I'm not mistaken, the absence of the update notification (dot or dialog) in the second profile suggests that the update may have been installed automatically. The first profile begins to crash, not immediately but progressively, probably because the update changed files on-the-fly that the first profile can't handle while opened.
Expected results:
Both profiles should respect the "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" setting.

This looks like it might be a duplicate of bug 1758669, which is itself a duplicate of bug 1480452. Only thing that's messing with me is whether the 'Check for updates but let you choose to install them' setting makes this different or not.
:Ugi, does this bug happen even if you don't choose to download the update? Note that downloading the update will always install on the next startup, unfortunately even if you're just starting a different profile.
(I'll let :nrishel determine whether this is a duplicate, and if not what severity it warrants.)

I'm so sorry, but I can't remember if I downloaded the update; it's been so long since I made the steps to reproduce, and I'm not in a position to start testing if all my work starts freezing again, haha. Hopefully, a solution can be found, as anything, literally, will be better than experiencing the slow crashing of tabs.
As of now I'm ignoring updates altogether if I have two profiles open at the same time.
