User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:141.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/141.0

Steps to reproduce:

Long press the FF icon and choose Private Tab. FF was was last open in normal mode before.

Actual results:

The screen is the private-mode purple, but it still has the shortcuts and collections as a normal tab. You have to hit the private icon twice to toggle back to normal and then to private to get the standard, plain private tab screen. More confusing, if you close out FF while in private mode, and then re-open, it is now in normal mode, but has the private mode warning note.

Android 16 on Google Pixel 8.

Expected results:

It should open up in full private mode, with just the warning note and no shortcuts or icons. This was how it worked before.

STR:

  1. Ensure "Compose Homepage" secret setting is disabled on Android Firefox 141.0.
  2. Close app completely (swipe away from recents).
  3. Long-press app icon until context menu appears.
  4. Tap "New private tab" in menu.

Expected:
Purple page with text "Leave no traces on this device".

Actual:
Purple page with top sites, "Jump back in", "Recently visited" and "Collections" sections like a normal non-private tab.

Does not happen with "Compose Homepage" setting enabled, default since 142.0a1 (Bug 1972159).

Feels like this is a WONTFIX if 142+ have the Compose homepage enabled by default and this bug doesn't reproduce there. Please reopen if I'm missing something.

It seems that not all users have "Compose Homepage" enabled in 141, it could be fixed before 142 by rolling it out to more users.
