In-product link request

Please summarize the request, emphasizing any user-facing changes. Include historical context or background information if it helps users understand the new features or changes. [REQUIRED]

We need to create a page about our new Productivity widgets, so we can explain to users where the information is stored, that it is not synced, and any feature limitations of the experiment. We also want to link to a Connect post for additional feedback.

##Are the user-facing changes mentioned above for the production release, or is the feature/change experimental/ beta? (Production, Experimental or Beta) [REQUIRED]
EXPERIMENTAL

Are the new features or changes region-specific? Are they going to be released in a gradual rollout? [REQUIRED]

YES, the Experiments will be region specific (about 4-5)

Please indicate if this is an on- or off-train release [REQUIRED]

ON-TRAIN, 143

What is the anticipated release date? [REQUIRED]

SEPTEMBER 23, 2025

Does the content need to be published prior to the release date? If so, when? [REQUIRED]

Yes, so that QA can verify - at least a week ahead of time?

Does the content need to be localized in any languages outside of EN-US? If yes, please indicate which languages. [REQUIRED]

YES: German, Brazilian Portuguese

Please include any related JIRA/Github/Bugzilla tickets, documentation, demos or practical use cases. [REQUIRED]

https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/HNT-743

Please include links to any design assets, visuals, figma files, etc. [REQUIRED]

Linked from the Jira epic above

Please add instructions for testing that will enable us to replicate the expected product behavior. [REQUIRED]

Once enrolled with the right prefs, the Lists widget and Timer widget will appear. Items and new lists can be added. The Focus or Break timers can be used.

Does the content need approval before publishing? If yes, identify the one approver responsible for this task.

YES, AMBER MERYMAN

I also meant to ask - we do need the URL for in-product linking, before the content is ready. I am not sure if that the usual process so thought I would specify that we need that, thank you!

Just wondering if we can have the URL, so that we can link to it from our in-product learn more. Thank you!

Hi Amber, I'll try to get it to you ASAP.

Hi Amber, I'll try to get it to you ASAP.

These are two possible URLs, depending on the final title for the article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-new-tab-widgets or https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-productivity-widgets

The second one will most likely be the definitive one.

I'd prefer https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-**new-tab-widgets **if possible.
My thinking is that New Tab may have other kinds of widgets we want feedback on (Finance, Sports, etc.). And there may be Productivity widgets that are not New Tab's.

But either is fine too ;-)

Thank you!

I see. No problems. We'll go with the first one, then.

The draft can be reviewed here.

I reviewed the draft, and added a short section at the top with more specifics about the experimental features.

KB here.

Revisions to the new Use widgets on the Firefox new tab page article have been submitted and are pending review (Flavius, can you take a look?) See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-new-tab-widgets/history and this article discussion thread.

Will the Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page article also need an update for fx143 to include the experimental Lists and Timer widgets? That article already covers the Weather feature, which has been available since at least Firefox 130 (see the related bug 1901613).

Flags: needinfo?(ffloare)

Thank you for these updates, they're great!

The "Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page" article would be updated for 144/145 if we decide to rollout the feature more broadly than an experiment.
