Often when you close a tab, the other tabs move/scroll. But in vertical tabs this scroll movement doesn't have a smooth scrolling style animation. Having a smooth scrolling animation when closing a tab is especially important when a user is closing many tabs that have the same favicon, as depending on where you close them from, you can accidentally close tabs you didn't intend to because you didn't realize what was happening in the tab strip because the scroll movement wasn't animated.
Sorry I forgot to add, not having smooth scroll animation when closing a tab can result in issues such as this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1826839

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Sidebar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Worth noting that normal horizontal tabs mode already does a smooth scroll animation when you close a tab, I believe it was described as "tabs slide over in a smooth animated way when you close a tab" but I cannot find the bug.
