Plus addressing has been a growing part of the email scene for some 20 years. The address book needs to automatically identify plus addresses and optionally other tagged addresses such as courier mail server's hyphen and the use of configurable separators in Extim and postfix servers based on a configurable list within Thunderbird.)

I see this as one component of implementing RFC 5233 along with general implentation in Bug 18882 for sending without the use of identities.
